Illinois EPA to Promote Clean Air with Interactive Exhibit at 2025 State Fair (Springfield, IL) — Fairgoers at the 2025 Illinois State Fair will have a chance to learn how everyday choices impact air quality, thanks to a new interactive exhibit from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA). The agency announced its theme for this year’s fair: “Together for Healthier Air!”

Located in Conservation World, the exhibit will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the fair’s 10-day run. Designed to engage visitors of all ages, the display will include hands-on games for kids and educational resources for adults covering topics such as ozone and particle pollution, the Air Quality Index, wildfire smoke, clean energy, and air pollution action days.

“Each year, we have the opportunity to connect with Illinois residents of all ages by highlighting one of the many topics important to our environment, and this year we will focus on air quality,” said Illinois EPA Acting Director James Jennings. “We strive to provide educational information to children through games and interaction, and adults, through other more detailed resources related to air quality.”

Children will be able to participate in several activities, including a miniature golf game called “Putting for Healthier Air,” which features clean energy sources and electric vehicle themes. Other games include an energy ball toss, trivia on a spin-the-wheel, an Air Quality Index fill-in-the-blank board, and an unscramble game. Younger children can also enjoy coloring stations.

Throughout the exhibit, educational signage will offer deeper insights into the importance of air quality and how individuals can contribute to cleaner air. The Illinois EPA will also showcase its free online environmental curricula, available to both educators and families.

Adults visiting the exhibit will have a chance to win one of four zero-waste starter kits through a giveaway held during the fair.

The exhibit will also take part in Conservation World’s “Sunflower Hours,” a sensory-friendly experience for guests with disabilities or special needs, on Saturday, August 9, and Tuesday, August 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The Illinois EPA’s exhibit is located just south of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Building.
