Illinois Freedom Caucus Issues Statement on Death of Charlie Kirk (Springfield, IL) – The Illinois Freedom Caucus released a statement Wednesday expressing shock and grief over what they described as the “tragic murder” of political commentator Charlie Kirk.
In the statement, the caucus called Kirk “a personal friend” and praised him as “a man of faith, principle and integrity” who launched Turning Point USA in Illinois. The group also suggested Kirk was targeted because of his role as a conservative voice.
“There are many unanswered questions about what happened today, but one thing seems abundantly clear – Charlie Kirk was murdered for being a credible spokesman for conservative ideas,” the statement read.
The caucus urged political leaders to lower partisan rhetoric and called for civil debate, while offering condolences to Kirk’s family.
