Jassac Hosts Expungement and Second Chance Event in Joliet, Serving Dozens With Legal and Community Support (Will County) – The Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter (JASSAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted a successful Will County Expungement and Second Chance Event on April 25, 2026, at the Stepping Stones Conference Center, bringing together legal experts, elected officials and community organizations focused on expanding access to opportunity.
The event provided free expungement screenings, legal guidance and record-sealing assistance to 21 participants, offering direct support with eligibility assessments, paperwork completion and next steps in the legal process. Organizers said the initiative aims to reduce barriers that often prevent individuals from securing employment, housing and education.
Beyond legal services, attendees had access to a wide range of supportive resources. These included professional attire such as suits and ties, hygiene kits, gift cards and a donated lunch from a local Joliet restaurant owner, along with food truck offerings. Participants were also connected to workforce development programs, voter registration opportunities and community-based services designed to promote long-term stability.
A broad coalition of partners contributed to the event, including the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Workforce Services of Will County, Black Fire Brigade, African American Business Association, NAACP, Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC), Illinois Tollway, League of Women Voters, Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation (SOUL), Black Bar Association of Will County, Arkas Restaurant Group, Gobble Dogs, National Hook-Up of Black Women of Joliet, Chicago Journal, the United States Army, Joliet Mayor Terry D’Arcy and Bolingbrook Mayor Ray Soliman.
Organizers emphasized that the event reflects JASSAC’s ongoing commitment to public service, social action and community empowerment. By helping individuals clear eligible records and connect with essential resources, the initiative seeks to create meaningful second chances and strengthen economic mobility across Will County.
