Kohl’s Stores in Illinois to Add Rooftop Solar Panels in Partnership with Verogy (Chicago, IL) – Shoppers visiting three Kohl’s locations in Illinois will soon see a new addition on the rooftops: solar panels.

Verogy, a Connecticut-based solar energy developer, announced Tuesday that it has begun installing rooftop solar systems at Kohl’s stores in Bourbonnais, Effingham, and Tinley Park. Together, the three projects will include nearly 2,700 solar modules capable of generating more than 1.8 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy each year.

That output is enough to power more than 170 homes annually and is expected to offset 1,215 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions — the equivalent of taking 283 cars off the road or avoiding more than three million miles driven in gasoline-powered vehicles, according to Verogy.

The Illinois installations follow three similar rooftop projects completed in 2023 at Kohl’s stores in Arizona, part of a growing partnership between the retailer and the solar developer.

“It has been a privilege to work with Kohl’s over the years,” said Verogy CEO Will Herchel. “Following the success of our projects in Arizona, we’re thrilled to continue supporting Kohl’s as they expand their renewable energy footprint across the country. These projects will not only generate substantial clean energy, but they also demonstrate Kohl’s continued commitment to corporate sustainability.”

The installations are expected to be completed later this year, adding to Kohl’s broader sustainability efforts and Verogy’s expanding portfolio of commercial solar projects nationwide.
