North Riverside Man Faces Felony Charges in Child Pornography and Drug Case (Cook County, IL) – A 40-year-old North Riverside man has been charged with multiple felony offenses after Cook County Sheriff’s Police said they discovered child sexual abuse material and illegal narcotics in his possession, Sheriff Thomas J. The investigation began in June, when the Sheriff’s Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding a user on a social media application who was allegedly uploading and sharing child sexual abuse material.

Through search warrants and subpoenas, investigators identified the account holder as Mark Rini, authorities said. On Dec. 10, sheriff’s police executed search warrants at Rini’s residence in the 8000 block of Edgewater Drive, as well as on his cellphone and other electronic devices.

According to investigators, multiple images of child sexual abuse material were found on Rini’s phone. During the search of his home, officers also recovered several small bags containing suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with a digital scale and additional small plastic bags.

Rini was taken into custody following the searches. On Dec. 11, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges including one count of dissemination of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Rini’s case was scheduled to be heard Dec. 12 at the Maywood Courthouse, but his initial court appearance was continued to Dec. 15 due to a hospitalization unrelated to his arrest. He was ordered to remain in custody until that time.

Sheriff’s officials noted that since 2020, ICAC Unit investigations have resulted in charges against 58 individuals in cases involving the victimization of children and child pornography.

Authorities emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
