Peters Calls for Federal Disaster Aid for Kankakee After Tornado Damage (Kankakee, IL) – State Sen. Robert Peters is calling for federal disaster assistance for Kankakee after tornadoes caused significant damage in the area during recent storms.
Peters, who is running for Congress in Illinois’ 2nd District, urged state and federal leaders to help the community recover and rebuild following the destruction.
“The tornadoes that hit Kankakee last night caused massive destruction,” Peters said in a statement. “Now is the time for all of Illinois to rally around Kankakee and ensure the residents have the resources needed to recover and rebuild.”
Peters also raised concerns about potential delays in federal disaster assistance, saying cuts and changes affecting the Federal Emergency Management Agency could hinder the response.
“That’s why we need congressional leadership to hold FEMA accountable for sending critically needed relief to local communities,” he said.
Local officials are continuing to assess the extent of the storm damage as residents begin recovery efforts
