Prairie State College Art Showcase Features New Works by Art Jackson at Wind Creek Chicago Southland (Chicago Heights, IL) – Prairie State College’s Art Showcase will continue this fall with a new installation featuring works by painter and retired law enforcement leader Art Jackson.
The exhibit opens Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Wind Creek Chicago Southland, 17300 S. Halsted St., East Hazel Crest, and will remain on display for two months.
Jackson, a United States Air Force veteran and retired First Deputy Chief of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police, is a self-taught artist who began painting while stationed in Alaska. Working primarily in acrylics, he is known for bold colors, heavy textures, and portraits of influential Black historical figures. Many of his canvases have been donated to the elementary school he once attended in Chicago.
“My hope is that these paintings will inspire children, connecting them to history while encouraging pride, curiosity, and imagination,” Jackson said.
The new collection includes Black Flower (24×24, acrylic on canvas), Mahasi Jewels (24×24, acrylic on canvas), and Shaman (20×40, acrylic on canvas). All works are available for purchase.
The PSC Art Showcase highlights the creativity of the college’s students, alumni, and residents of Community College District 515. Selected artists may also be invited to display their work at the Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights.
