Taste for the Homeless Founder Says Rising Costs of Life’s Basics Make Their Services More Necessary Than Ever Before (Riverdale, IL) – Homeless advocacy organization Taste for the Homeless (TFTH), in partnership with the Dolton Park District, kicks off its 7th annual resource fair for Chicagoland’s homeless and low-income communities on June 21st. Officially named Taste for the Homeless Summerfest, the resource fair starts at 11 a.m. at Dolton Park, located at 721 Engle Street. TFTH founder Michael Airhart says the organization is prepared to serve more people than in past years.
“Everyday things like food and clothing are simply more expensive now, and prices seem to be rising constantly. We’re living in uncertain economic times, which makes life even harder for people living on the streets, in shelters, and from paycheck to paycheck,” Airhart explained. “We’re expecting to see more people at this year’s resource fair, and we’re ready for them. It’s what we do.”
Attendees will receive groceries and clothing and have opportunities to take advantage of healthcare and workforce development resources. They can also expect to be entertained during the event, the theme of which this year is Jurassic World.
“We’re excited to offer our guests an amazing experience,” said Airhart. “It’s important to us that the day be more than just about surviving hard times. In the past we’ve had carnival rides, pony rides, dancing and music played by local DJs. Guests can also picnic in the park with food provided free by generous local vendors. Everything is free. We want everyone to have a roaring, prehistoric good time.”
Taste For The Homeless’ seventh annual Summerfest: Jurassic World is sponsored by Conscious Alliance, American Family Insurance, Interstate Batteries, Eli’s Cheescake, and Robert and Nicki Fioretti.
