Willie Wilson Campaign Unveils Ad Targeting Brandon Johnson, Alexi Giannoulias (Chicago, IL) – Chicago mayoral candidate Dr. Willie Wilson has launched a new television and digital advertising campaign criticizing Mayor Brandon Johnson and fellow mayoral candidate Alexi Giannoulias over what Wilson describes as longstanding problems with corruption, insider politics and government accountability.
The advertisement began airing on local television networks and digital platforms, according to Wilson’s campaign.
Wilson’s campaign says the ad focuses on Johnson’s record as mayor and accuses his administration of prioritizing special interests over Chicago taxpayers. The campaign also criticizes Giannoulias, the Illinois secretary of state and a candidate for Chicago mayor, over his political activities and his decision to pursue the mayor’s office while serving in his statewide position.
“I’m running for Mayor because Chicago needs an independent leader who will stand up for taxpayers and put a stop to the corruption, waste, fraud and abuse that has defined our city government for too long,” Wilson said in a statement.
Wilson also criticized both Johnson and Giannoulias as part of what he characterized as an established political system.
“Mayor Johnson has utterly failed in that respect, and Alexi Giannoulias would be more of the same — another typical insider politician who is more interested in advancing his own career than in making the tough decisions necessary to save our city,” Wilson said.
The ad is part of Wilson’s campaign for mayor as candidates position themselves ahead of the city’s upcoming election. Wilson is presenting his campaign as an independent alternative and has emphasized issues including the cost of groceries and housing, taxes, public school standards and public safety.
Wilson, a businessman and former candidate for mayor, is also highlighting his personal background in his campaign messaging. His campaign describes him as the son of sharecroppers who built successful businesses before entering electoral politics.
The campaign says Wilson’s platform includes efforts to reduce the cost of necessities, lower taxes on middle-class residents, raise standards in Chicago public schools, reduce crime and address public safety across the city’s neighborhoods.
The statements concerning Johnson and Giannoulias are Wilson’s campaign’s political characterizations. The campaign release announcing the advertisement did not include responses from either Johnson or Giannoulias.
