Alderman Howard Brookins Endorses Willie Preston for State Senate (Chicago, IL) — Alderman Howard Brookins of the 21st Ward has endorsed community activist, organizer, and small-business owner Willie Preston for State Senate in the 16th District.
“I have known Willie Preston for years,” said Alderman Brookins, “and I know that he has what it takes to bring a new generation of leadership to Springfield. Willie and his wife Brittany are mainstays in our community – and they are tireless fighters for what is right. Willie has my complete and total endorsement to fill this seat, and I know that once elected he will get straight to work creating opportunities for the district – just like he has at Preston Construction and Landscaping where he is, literally, rebuilding our community.”

The 16th District is an open-seat, as current State Senator Jacqueline Collins has opted to run for the open Congressional Seat vacated by Bobby Rush’s retirement.
This is the first public Aldermanic endorsement in the 16th District race and will be a key factor in getting the Preston for Senate campaign off on the right foot.
Career highlights
As a young man just starting a family Preston worked as a Union carpenter to support his family but was personally devastated by the great recession. However, Willie was not deterred and pressed on by continuing his education at Chicago State University. This is why job training programs are a crucial part of his vision for creating economic growth on the Southside. As a citizen, Preston has been active throughout the 16th District—he has organized and attended rallies, been elected to the Local School Council in the district, and served on the board for the Chicago Metropolitan YMCA representing an early childhood education learning center inside the district.
