NBA Hall of Famers Bring Back Popular Basketball Camp to Southside (NBA Greats & Carver High School alums, Terry Cummings and Tim Hardaway (along with other notable NBA & WNBA athletes) will be hosting the 3-Day Basketball Camp for young athletes on the southside of Chicago at Carver Military Academy that began July 17 and will last through July 19, 2024.

The camp will feature 10-17 year old athletes participating in drills, skills and other competition. A celebrity basketball game and a jersey retirement will be held on the closing day, Friday, July 19.

“I’m proud to be from the southside of Chicago; to have represented the southside of Chicago as a professional player in the NBA for 18 years. This camp gave a lot to the community and to Altgeld. It has proven to be a deterrent in keeping the kids away from gang banging, crime and drugs. Since the inception of the camp 20+ years ago, we have serviced over 15,000 kids. We couldn’t be prouder!”, NBA Great, NBA Hall of Fame Nominee & Chicago native Terry Cummings said.

NBA Hall of Famer Tim Hardaway echoes Cummings’ sentiments and (along with Cummings) will coach ‘The Carver Legends’ game on Friday night, with doors opening at 5p and game beginning at 6p. Other NBA Hall of Famers & legends are expected to attend this hyped occasion.

Also during Friday night’s activities, Carver Military Academy will retire Cummings’ basketball jersey – one of the highest honors at the school. Cummings is humbled to receive such a prestigious honor. “I am overwhelmed. Carver served as the foundation for my basketball career that was so good to me and a career that allowed me to take care of myself and my family. It was all for them. I’m deeply honored.”
