South Side’s Leo High School Choir Honored for ‘America’s Got Talent’ Success (Chicago, IL) – State Rep. Mike Crawford, D-Chicago, is celebrating the national success of Leo High School’s choir after the Auburn Gresham ensemble earned a top-four finish on this season of America’s Got Talent.
The students performed their final round in Los Angeles on Sept. 23, with results announced the following night. Their run on the NBC competition show drew widespread praise for both their artistry and their representation of Chicago’s South Side.
“I am so proud of the Leo High School Choir for their remarkable run on America’s Got Talent,” Crawford said. “Under the leadership of Leo alum and Principal Dr. Shaka Rawls and longtime Music Director LaDonna Hill, these students represented the very best of Chicago’s South Side with discipline, heart, and extraordinary talent.”
Crawford said he plans to formally honor the choir during the Illinois General Assembly’s Fall Veto Session, inviting the group to Springfield to be recognized on the House floor with a resolution.
The choir, guided by Hill’s direction, has become a centerpiece of Leo High School’s arts program and a source of pride for the community.
“It is an honor to be their State Representative,” Crawford added. “I look forward to welcoming them to Springfield to celebrate their achievements.”
