Dolton Trustee Kiana Belcher Files Petitions for Cook County Commissioner Race (Dolton, IL) – Kiana Belcher, a longtime community advocate and recently re-elected Dolton Village Trustee, has officially filed her petitions to run for Cook County’s 5th District Commissioner seat. Among the first to submit paperwork, Belcher says her campaign represents “a new era of accountable leadership and people-first progress” for residents across Chicago’s South Side and the South Suburbs.

Belcher, who secured an overwhelming re-election victory in April, has earned a reputation for her focus on transparency, collaboration, and community empowerment. Her campaign for county commissioner centers on three key priorities: improving infrastructure, expanding access to healthcare, and creating good-paying jobs for working families.

“I’ve dedicated my life to serving the Southland, and I’m running because our residents deserve real results — not more political games,” Belcher said. “It’s time we invest in our neighborhoods, our health, and our future with leadership that listens and delivers.”

A Proven Record of Leadership

Belcher currently serves as a Trustee for the Village of Dolton, where she has championed initiatives focused on public safety, fiscal responsibility, and infrastructure repair. Her financial expertise as a CFO and entrepreneur, she said, will help ensure county resources are used responsibly and effectively.

Holding degrees in criminal justice and political science from Governors State University, Belcher also spent seven years as an educator and has long advocated for equitable access to opportunity for children and families.

Beyond her work in local government, Belcher is an active member of the Illinois Democratic Women and the Order of Eastern Star. She also serves as Vice President, Treasurer, and Membership Chair for the Far South Suburban Branch of the NAACP.

‘People Over Politics’

Running under the campaign motto “People Over Politics,” Belcher says her leadership style blends compassion with accountability.

“Our community deserves a seat at the table where real decisions are made,” she said. “Together, we can build a district that works for everyone — one that protects, heals, and creates opportunity.”

Belcher, a Dolton resident of 17 years, describes her campaign as an extension of her lifelong mission to champion equity, accountability, and opportunity for all Southland residents
