Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson Elected to National League of Cities Board (Broadview, IL) – Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson has been elected to the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors, securing a two-year term that places her among the national organization’s top municipal leaders. The vote took place during NLC’s 2025 City Summit in Salt Lake City, where more than 3,000 mayors, councilmembers and municipal officials gathered from across the country.

Thompson’s elevation comes at a time when Broadview has drawn intense national attention over a federal ICE immigration processing and de facto detention center located in the village. The site, used during the Trump administration’s “Midway Blitz” immigration operation, has sparked months of protests and thrust the west suburban community into the center of a national debate over immigration policy.

“Serving on the NLC Board of Directors matters to me because it gives communities like Broadview a real voice at the national table,” Thompson said. “Local government is where policy meets people and sometimes collides with national issues. We have to make sure the interests of our working-class residents — in our case, predominantly African-American residents — are not overlooked.”

The National League of Cities represents more than 19,000 municipalities nationwide and advocates for local government priorities in Washington, D.C. Board members help shape the organization’s strategic direction and meet three times a year, in March, June and November.

Board members are chosen through a nomination process led by a 15-member committee and confirmed by the NLC membership during its annual business meeting each November.

NLC President Kevin Kramer, a Louisville, Kentucky, councilmember, welcomed Thompson and other newly elected members.

“The Board of Directors creates the vision and direction for our more than 19,000 cities, towns and villages,” Kramer said. “I am ready to dive into the details with this extraordinary group of local leaders as we support strong and thriving communities across America.”

Thompson will begin her board service in 2026.
