CTA Encourages Fans to Ride the Red Line for Cubs-White Sox Crosstown Classic (Chicago, IL) – Chicago baseball fans gearing up for the return of the Crosstown Classic are being encouraged to skip the traffic and parking headaches by taking the Chicago Transit Authority to this summer’s Cubs and White Sox matchups.
The CTA highlighted its Red Line service as the most direct route to both Rate Field and Wrigley Field during the highly anticipated rivalry series between the city’s two Major League Baseball teams.
Fans attending the Cubs vs. White Sox games at Rate Field this weekend can take the Red Line to the Sox-35th station, located one block west of the stadium. The series begins Friday, May 15 at 6:40 p.m., followed by games Saturday, May 16 at 6:10 p.m. and Sunday, May 17 at 1:10 p.m.
The CTA is also promoting convenient access to Wrigley Field for the White Sox vs. Cubs series scheduled for Aug. 17-19. Fans can ride the Red Line to Addison station, just steps from the historic North Side ballpark.
Transit officials noted that riders can save money by purchasing unlimited-ride CTA passes, including a 1-Day pass for $5 or a 3-Day pass for $15.
In addition to Red Line service, several bus and rail routes serve both stadiums. For Rate Field, fans can also use the Green Line and multiple nearby bus routes, including the #35 31st/35th bus, which directly serves the stadium during all game times.
For Wrigley Field, the CTA announced several service enhancements for the 2026 season. Weekday Purple Line Express trains will stop at Sheridan station before night games, and Linden-bound Purple Line Express trains will now stop there during weekday daytime Cubs games. The CTA also said the Yellow Line will operate extended service until midnight after all night games at Wrigley Field.
Additional bus service will be provided on the #152 Addison route during Cubs home games.
The CTA advised customers to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by using the Ventra app, which includes account management tools and trip planning powered by Google Maps.
Fans are also encouraged to check for possible reroutes or service alerts before traveling by visiting transitchicago.com.
