Franklin Park Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Armed Robbery Spree Targeting Six Chicago Suburban Banks (Chicago, IL) – A Franklin Park man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for carrying out six bank robberies across the Chicago suburbs over a 10-month period, including five in which he brandished a firearm.

German Campos Jr., 26, pleaded guilty in March 2026 to federal bank robbery and firearm charges. U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin sentenced Campos to 14 years in federal prison on Wednesday. He has remained in law enforcement custody since his arrest on Sept. 17, 2024.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, Campos committed the robberies between October 2023 and August 2024.

The robberies occurred at:

  • Oct. 18, 2023: U.S. Bank in Schaumburg
  • Dec. 16, 2023: U.S. Bank in Elmhurst
  • March 6, 2024: U.S. Bank in Schaumburg
  • June 13, 2024: U.S. Bank in Elmhurst
  • Aug. 9, 2024: BMO Bank in Park Ridge
  • Aug. 28, 2024: U.S. Bank in Niles

Federal prosecutors said Campos displayed a gun during five of the six robberies, including incidents in which he pointed the firearm at bank employees and customers.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie C. Stern described Campos’ actions as a significant threat to public safety in the government’s sentencing memorandum.

“Defendant’s repeated use of a gun during robberies, including pointing that gun into victim faces over and over again, posed a significant threat to the safety of the bank employees, customers, and general public,” Stern wrote. “The only reason why defendant stopped his violent robbery spree was because he was finally caught after ten months of terrorizing bank employees and customers.”

Campos’ arrest followed an investigation involving multiple suburban law enforcement agencies. The Schaumburg, Elmhurst, Park Ridge, Niles and Franklin Park police departments provided substantial assistance in the case.

The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Ryan Whalen, acting special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office.

Campos will serve his sentence in federal prison following his conviction on the bank robbery and firearm charges.
