DuPage Sheriff’s Office Undergoing ILEAP Accreditation Assessment (DuPage County, IL) – The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office will undergo an assessment next month as it seeks to maintain its accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
An assessment team will visit the Sheriff’s Office in Wheaton on Sept. 7 and 8 to review the agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.
The upcoming review will mark the Sheriff’s Office’s second accreditation cycle through ILEAP. Agencies seeking accreditation must meet at least 181 ILEAP criteria representing established standards for the quality of law enforcement services provided to the public.
The evaluation will be conducted by trained, independent professional peers. Chief Jeff Hamer, retired from the Macomb Police Department and the current ILEAP director, will lead the assessment.
During the review, Hamer is expected to examine written materials, conduct interviews, meet with deputies, speak with elected officials and evaluate other areas of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office is also inviting members of the public to provide feedback directly to the accreditation team.
Residents may call 630-407-2304 between noon and 1 p.m. on Sept. 8 to speak privately with ILEAP representatives. Comments will be limited to five minutes and must focus on residents’ experiences with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and whether they believe the agency should remain accredited.
Following the assessment, a detailed report outlining the findings and the agency’s compliance with ILEAP policies and standards will be prepared and presented to the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association’s ILEAP Council.
The council will review the findings and vote on whether the Sheriff’s Office has met the professional standards required for accreditation.
