Liz Doody Gorman Calls for Accountability Following Reports and Released Footage (Cook County, IL) – Elizabeth “Liz” Doody Gorman, a candidate for Cook County Commissioner, is raising questions about her opponent’s conduct and judgment following recent reports and the release of video footage.
In a statement, Gorman said candidates and public officials seeking voters’ trust should be held to high standards both while conducting official business and away from taxpayer-funded time.
“I believe those who ask for the public’s trust should conduct themselves with integrity both on and off taxpayer-funded time,” Gorman said.
Gorman said the reports and footage raise questions that she believes Cook County voters should consider when evaluating the candidates.
“Recent reports and released footage have raised serious questions about my opponent’s conduct and judgment,” she said. “I believe voters deserve to know the facts and make their own decision.”
Gorman also addressed the use of the footage, emphasizing that she said it was not used to pressure her opponent into providing anything.
“Let me be absolutely clear: we did not use this footage to extort, threaten or obtain anything from my opponent,” Gorman said.
She characterized the controversy as a matter of public trust and the standards expected of elected officials.
“This is not how I believe public servants should conduct themselves,” Gorman said.
Gorman said Cook County residents deserve elected officials who understand the responsibilities that come with holding public office and maintain high standards regardless of whether they are being recorded.
“Public office is a position of trust,” Gorman said. “The people of Cook County deserve a commissioner who understands that responsibility and holds themselves to a high standard — not just when the cameras are on, but even when they think they aren’t.”
Gorman said that if elected Cook County Commissioner, she would seek to conduct herself with dignity both during and outside taxpayer-funded time.
