DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Honors Lives Lost on 9/11 on 25th Anniversary (Wheaton, IL) – Twenty-five years after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is joining communities across the country in remembering the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others.
Throughout September, the Sheriff’s Office will display a September 11 Memorial Wall in the lobby of its Wheaton headquarters as a tribute to those who died in the attacks.
The memorial is intended to serve as a solemn reminder of the individuals behind the names, as well as the families, friends and communities whose lives were permanently changed by the tragedy.
“September 11th changed our nation forever,” the Sheriff’s Office said, noting that the anniversary serves as a reminder of the importance of courage, sacrifice, service and standing together as a community.
“As Law Enforcement we honor and respect our first responders and Armed Forces who tirelessly protect us every day,” Sheriff James Mendrick said. “This is a day of remembrance to honor those whom made the ultimate sacrifice.”
The memorial display comes as the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 men, women and children in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
The Sheriff’s Office said it will use the anniversary to pause, reflect and honor those who were lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
