Jim Marter Urges Lauren Underwood to Condemn Hasan Piker Over Alleged Antisemitic Remarks (Oswego, IL ) – Republican congressional candidate Jim Marter is calling on U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood to publicly condemn political commentator Hasan Piker over remarks Marter characterized as antisemitic.
Marter, the Republican nominee for Congress in Illinois’ 14th District, issued the statement Aug. 31 from Oswego as he continued his criticism of Underwood’s position on antisemitism.
According to Marter’s campaign, Piker recently told Fox News that he equates Israel’s right to exist with Nazi Germany. Marter said he believes comments targeting Jewish people or communities should be condemned regardless of their political source.
“Combating anti-Semitism and religious bigotry is one of the key elements of my platform,” Marter said. “I have always condemned and called out anti-Semitism which is both racism and religious bigotry.”
Marter said several Democratic officials have criticized Piker and urged Underwood to join them in speaking out against what he described as antisemitic rhetoric.
“There are over a dozen Democrats condemning Hasan Piker’s blaming all the problems of the world on the Jewish Community,” Marter said. “I call on Lauren Underwood to join her fellow Democrat colleagues and condemn anti-Semitism by Hasan Piker or any other source, such as ‘the Squad’ members Lauren Underwood campaigns with, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.”
Marter has previously criticized Underwood over what his campaign describes as a “record of silence” regarding antisemitism.
The Republican candidate is challenging Underwood in the November 2026 election for Illinois’ 14th Congressional District. Marter said his campaign will continue emphasizing what he describes as his commitment to faith, family and freedom.
The controversy over Piker’s remarks comes as antisemitism and political rhetoric surrounding Israel and the Jewish community remain contentious issues in national and congressional politics.
