Blue Island Park District Seeks Community Input on Future of Parks and Recreation (Blue Island, IL) – The Blue Island Park District is asking residents, families, businesses and community partners to help shape the future of local parks, recreation programs and community spaces through a new online survey.
The survey is part of the Park District’s Comprehensive Master Plan, a long-term planning effort designed to identify priorities for parks, recreation facilities, programs, events and future investments throughout Blue Island.
Community feedback will help the district identify immediate opportunities as well as long-term priorities aimed at improving quality of life across the community.
Executive Director Ted Ruthenberg said the Park District wants input from all residents, including those who do not regularly use its parks or participate in recreation programs.
“This master planning process is about listening,” Ruthenberg said. “Whether you visit one of our parks every week or haven’t been in years, your perspective matters. We want to understand what our community values today, what improvements residents would like to see tomorrow, and how the Park District can better serve every neighborhood and every generation.”
The survey asks participants to weigh in on park amenities, recreation facilities, programs, special events and future priorities. Residents who do not currently participate in Park District activities are also encouraged to respond, providing an opportunity to identify potential barriers to participation and ways the district can better serve the community.
“Every response helps us build a clearer picture of what our community wants,” Ruthenberg said. “Our Board and staff are committed to making thoughtful, informed decisions, and that begins with hearing directly from the people we serve.”
The Comprehensive Master Plan will examine existing parks, facilities and programs while identifying opportunities to improve recreational experiences, preserve existing assets and prepare for future growth.
Feedback from the survey will be combined with information gathered through public meetings and stakeholder discussions. The goal is to establish priorities reflecting the community’s vision for Blue Island’s parks and recreation system over the next five years and beyond.
The survey takes approximately five to 10 minutes to complete, and responses will remain anonymous. The survey will be available for several weeks, with a deadline of Sept. 28.
