More Than 100 Latino Faith Leaders Endorse Willie Wilson for Chicago Mayor (Chicago, IL) – More than 100 Latino faith leaders from congregations and denominations across Chicago have endorsed Dr. Willie Wilson in his campaign for mayor, adding another bloc of religious and community leaders to the businessman’s bid for City Hall.
The endorsement was announced Friday at Shekinah a Las Naciones Church in Humboldt Park, where pastors and other faith leaders gathered to publicly back Wilson and his campaign for the 2027 mayoral election.
Wilson used the event to emphasize his message of citywide representation, saying his campaign is focused on reaching residents across Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods rather than relying on a single constituency.
“Chicago needs a Mayor who will represent the diversity and beauty of all of our 77 neighborhoods, not just cater to a narrow base of support,” Wilson said. “I pledge to them and to the people of Chicago that I will work hard every day to make our city safer, stronger and better able to serve our residents’ needs.”
Among those publicly endorsing Wilson were Pastor Dr. Edgar Palma, Pastor Alejandra Damian, Pastor Josue Raetegui and Apostle Carlos Chica, along with numerous other Latino faith leaders.
The endorsements come as Wilson seeks to build a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 Chicago mayoral race. His campaign is promoting an agenda that includes reducing the cost of groceries and housing, lowering taxes on middle-class residents, raising standards in Chicago public schools and addressing crime and public safety.
Wilson, who describes himself as an independent candidate, is the son of sharecroppers and built a business career before entering Chicago politics and running for mayor.
His campaign has positioned his candidacy around economic affordability, public safety and what it describes as independent leadership for Chicago.
The 2027 mayoral contest is expected to draw multiple candidates and competing political coalitions as the election approaches.
