Commissioner Aguilar Launches Monthly VetConnect Workshops for Local Veterans (Cook County, IL) – Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar has launched a new initiative to connect veterans and their families with vital support services, hosting the first of a monthly VetConnect workshop at his district office on August 26.
The event, held at 7833 Ogden Avenue, Lyons IL, brought together the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County (VACCC), Rincon Family Services, and Get Covered Illinois to provide direct assistance to 16th District veterans. Services included help with Veterans Affairs claims and benefits, mortgage and rental support, utility and internet bill assistance, and other resources.
“In America, veterans volunteer to protect this country. When their tours are over, we must meet them where they are and make sure resources and support services are accessible,” Commissioner Aguilar said. “Most importantly, thank you to our veterans. We will continue to ensure that you and your family have access to the resources and support you deserve.”
The workshops, which will take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month, are designed to remove barriers for veterans seeking assistance. The next session is scheduled for September 23.
VACCC leaders emphasized the importance of reaching veterans in their own communities. “Our mission is simple yet vital: to ensure every veteran and their family receives the benefits, services, and support they have rightfully earned,” said VACCC Communications and Outreach Manager Conner Intress. “By embedding our team in local elected officials’ offices, public libraries, and neighborhood spaces, we remove barriers to access and meet veterans where they are.”
Commissioner Aguilar said the monthly series reflects his commitment to ensuring veterans have the resources they need to thrive after service.
