Cook County Clerk Launches New Voter Registration Efforts on National Voter Registration Day (Cook County, IL) – Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon marked National Voter Registration Day by unveiling new initiatives to boost voter participation ahead of the 2026 elections.
Gordon emphasized the importance of voter registration, calling it the foundation of American democracy. “National Voter Registration Day is not just another date on the calendar,” she said. “It is a powerful reminder that the foundation of our democracy begins with one simple and essential act, which is registering to vote.”
In preparation for the March 2026 gubernatorial primary, the Clerk’s Office is partnering with local fraternal organizations to help expand outreach across Cook County neighborhoods. Gordon said these groups bring strong community ties and the ability to spread the message that “voting matters.”
The office is also working to engage younger voters through partnerships with high schools and community colleges. A pilot program has already begun training student election judges in cybersecurity and civics at several community colleges, with plans to extend it to high school students in the spring.
