Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon to Participate in Chicago Urban League Policy Summit Town Hall (Chicago, IL) – Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon will join civic and community leaders Monday evening for a public town hall focused on voting rights, civic participation, and strengthening democracy.
The event, titled “Moving Democracy from Theory to Practice,” is part of the Chicago Urban League’s 2026 Policy Summit and will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at the Chicago Urban League Empowerment Center, 8331 S. Stewart Ave. in Chicago.
Organizers say the discussion will center on the continued importance of the Voting Rights Act, the role elections play in shaping public policy, and the need for year-round civic engagement beyond Election Day.
Topics scheduled for discussion include:
- The legacy and ongoing significance of the Voting Rights Act
- How elections and public policy affect everyday life
- The importance of civic participation outside of voting
- Immediate and long-term ways residents can strengthen democracy within their communities
Gordon will appear alongside National Urban League President and former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, as well as Chicago Urban League President and former Gary, Indiana Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.
According to organizers, the town hall is designed to encourage residents to stay engaged through advocacy, community organizing, mentorship, public service, and local involvement throughout the year.
The Chicago Urban League’s annual Policy Summit brings together elected officials, advocates, and community leaders to discuss issues impacting Black communities and civic life across the region.
