IL Freedom Caucus Calls for Fiscal Discipline Ahead of Budget Release (Springfield, IL) β The Illinois Freedom Caucus today held a press conference to urge their colleagues to embrace fiscally responsible budgetary polices and to look at ways to cut spending rather than identifying new ways to tax Illinois citizens.
Since Governor J.B. Pritzker took office in 2019, his proposed budget has ballooned by nearly $17 billion. The Illinois Freedom Caucus says the state has a spending problem β not a revenue and is issuing the following statement:
βThe Democrats are doing what they always do β waiting until the last minute to present a budget and force through more tax increases to pay for their out-of-control spending. We have heard numerous reports about different tax increases they are considering. But we have not heard one word about areas they plan to cut. Instead, they want to blame President Trump for the stateβs budget woes. It was not President Trump who grew spending by $17 Billion in six years. JB Pritzker and his allies in the House and Senate did that. We need to stop punishing the people of this state for the inept leadership of our state.
Rather than enacting meaningful reforms and open the budget process to make it more transparent and accountable, the Democrats have chosen to waste time passing anti-Trump resolutions and complaining and grandstanding that they’re candidate lost in a landslide in the November presidential election. Time to get serious and pass a responsible budget.β
