Illinois Freedom Caucus Endorses Harold Visser in 118th District State House Race (Carbondale, IL) – The Illinois Freedom Caucus has endorsed Harold Visser in his campaign for State Representative in Illinois’ 118th House District, citing his alignment with conservative values and positions on education, business and individual rights.
The endorsement was announced Monday by members of the caucus, a group of Republican lawmakers known for advocating limited government and socially conservative policies in the General Assembly.
State Rep. Chris Miller, R-Hindsboro, praised Visser as a candidate willing to take a more confrontational stance in Springfield.
“The people serving in our state capitol should be patriots who are willing to stand up and fight,” Miller said in a statement. He added that Visser understands the current political climate and is prepared to challenge both Democratic leadership and Republicans he described as ineffective.
State Rep. Adam Niemerg, R-Dieterich, a founding member of the Illinois Freedom Caucus, said Visser’s background and recent political activism were key factors in the endorsement.
Niemerg described Visser as a business owner, husband and father who became politically engaged through his opposition to legislation affecting homeschooling. Visser was among families who organized against a proposed homeschool measure debated in Springfield last year, an issue that drew significant attention from conservative and parental rights groups.
Niemerg also noted that Visser holds positions consistent with the caucus’s priorities, including support for anti-abortion policies, Second Amendment rights and pro-business legislation. Visser is also endorsed by Illinois Family Action, a conservative advocacy organization.
Visser said he is honored by the endorsement and views it as part of a broader effort to expand the caucus’s influence in the legislature.
“There is strength in numbers,” Visser said. “The only way for the Illinois Freedom Caucus to continue advancing conservative values is for the caucus to grow.”
The 118th District race will be decided in the March 17 election. If elected, Visser would add another member to the Illinois Freedom Caucus, supporters said, bolstering the group’s presence in the Statehouse.
