Pierce Backs Trump’s Iran Strike, Urges Clear Objectives to Avoid Prolonged Conflict (Naperville, IL) – Retired Lt. Col. Michael D. Pierce, a Republican candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 11th District, voiced support for President Donald Trump’s recent military strike against Iran, calling it a necessary step to protect U.S. interests and uphold a Middle East peace agreement brokered by the administration last year.
In a statement released Feb. 28, Pierce said the president’s actions reinforce a commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
“The President has made it clear that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” Pierce said. “The United States has tried repeatedly to reach a deal peacefully with Iran, but time after time Iran has made it clear they are not interested in peace, leaving the United States no choice but to take action.”
Pierce framed the strike as consistent with an “America First” approach to foreign policy, arguing that decisive action was required to preserve stability in the region.
At the same time, the retired Army officer cautioned against the possibility of a prolonged military engagement, drawing comparisons to the Iraq War.
“The last thing we need is another Iraq,” Pierce said. “I take the President at his word that this will not be a repeat of the war in Iraq. While I support the action he is taking against Iran, I do not support a long war with no clear objective. For the sake of our troops and for the safety of our nation, there must be clearly outlined objectives.”
The comments place foreign policy at the forefront of the 11th District congressional race, as candidates weigh in on U.S. involvement in the Middle East and the scope of presidential war powers. Pierce, who is campaigning on his military background, has emphasized national security and support for veterans as key pillars of his platform.
