Preston Criticizes U.S. Strikes on Iran, Calls on Miller to Reject AIPAC Support (Chicago, IL) – Illinois State Sen. Willie Preston, a Democratic candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, condemned recent U.S. military strikes against Iran carried out without what he said was proper congressional authorization and urged fellow Democrat Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller to reject support from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
In a statement released following the military action, Preston argued that decisions about war must involve Congress and said outside political influence is shaping the local congressional race.
“We must not ignore the politics of war because all war is political,” Preston said. “The United States should not go to war without congressional approval.”
Preston also sharply criticized AIPAC, calling it “a malign influence” in the contest for the 2nd Congressional District seat. He accused the organization of attempting to “purchase a candidate” in Miller and claimed she has remained silent about tensions involving Iran.
“As we see the events in Iran unfold, we know that by agreeing to be silent as part of their terms of enslavement, Donna Miller has paved the road to war for the United States,” Preston said. “Commissioner Miller must reject all AIPAC support.”
The 2nd Congressional District race has drawn heightened attention amid national debates over U.S. foreign policy and the role of outside spending in primary elections. AIPAC, a pro-Israel advocacy organization, has been active in congressional races across the country, often through affiliated political action committees.
Miller has not publicly responded to Preston’s latest remarks.
The exchange signals that foreign policy and campaign financing are emerging as central issues in the Democratic primary contest, as candidates stake out contrasting positions on U.S. involvement abroad and the influence of national advocacy groups in local races.
