Rep. Adam Niemerg Introduces Measure Restoring Control of Solar Developments back to County Governments (Dieterich, IL) – State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) says Illinois’ decision to strip the authority of county governments to regulate solar projects has been an abject failure.
“Zoning matters should be in the hands of local governments,” Niemerg said. “While technically local governments are the ones to sign off on solar developments, the truth is state law gives County Boards very little authority to regulate the number of solar farms within the county limits.”
Niemerg has filed a measure House Bill 4078 that would return solar regulation back to county governments and would allow county governments to enact their own solar policies.
“County officials are accountable to the people in their respective counties and so the decision to allow a solar project to move forward belongs at the local level – not some bureaucrats in Springfield,” Niemerg said. “I have heard from a lot of my constituents who are frustrated they have no recourse or say in solar developments in their backyard. It is time to put these decisions where they belong – in the hands of locally elected county board members.”
House Bill 4078 has been filed and awaits assignment to a legislative committee.
