U.S. Chamber Honors Dick Cheney’s Legacy as a Business and Public Service Leader (Washington, D.C.) – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce paid tribute Tuesday to former Vice President Dick Cheney, who died this week, calling him a “dedicated public servant, businessman, and steadfast champion of American free enterprise.”

In a statement, U.S. Chamber President and CEO Suzanne Clark reflected on Cheney’s long career in both government and the private sector, highlighting his belief that “economic strength underpins a strong nation.”

“Throughout his distinguished career—from the private sector to the highest levels of government—he understood that economic strength underpins a strong nation,” Clark said. “The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is grateful for his partnership, his principled leadership, and his enduring example. We send our heartfelt condolences to the Cheney family and to all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.”

Cheney, who served as the 46th Vice President of the United States under President George W. Bush, was also a prominent figure in business and policy circles. Before his vice presidency, he served as Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush and later as CEO of Halliburton, one of the world’s largest energy services companies.

The Chamber’s statement underscored Cheney’s longstanding influence on American economic and national policy, marking his passing as the loss of a figure who bridged corporate and public leadership over several decades.
