DeLuca Pushes for Property Tax Reform, Public Safety Support in Meeting with Local Leaders (Richton Park, IL) — State Rep. Anthony DeLuca, D-Chicago Heights, met with Illinois Municipal League Executive Director Brad Cole and area elected officials this week to address what he calls the state’s “broken” property tax system and to press for stronger public safety measures and restored funding for local governments.

The meeting, held at Southland College Prep Charter High School in Richton Park, brought together municipal leaders to share ideas on how Springfield can better support communities.

“Local families rightfully expect better public safety, a fair property tax system that delivers real relief, and greater partnership from the state,” DeLuca said. “These are commonsense priorities, and we must stand together to direct needed change.”

DeLuca, who serves on the Illinois House’s Property Tax Working Group, provided updates on legislative proposals aimed at easing the tax burden on residents. He also stressed the need for more resources for law enforcement so officers can work safely and effectively.

Another key topic was the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF), which allocates a portion of state income tax revenues to municipalities. DeLuca, a longtime advocate for increasing LGDF payments, argued that restoring a higher percentage to local governments would place spending decisions closer to residents and improve the impact of tax dollars.

“This meeting involved thoughtful collaboration on how we can best advocate for change on the state level,” DeLuca said. “I don’t care whether an idea comes from a Republican, Democrat or Independent — I will always fight for good, commonsense solutions that improve the lives of local families.”
