Olive-Harvey College Launches New Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (Chicago, IL) – Olive-Harvey College is gearing up to train the next generation of electric vehicle technicians with the launch of its new Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, officials announced Wednesday.
The initiative, set to begin classes in January, will give students hands-on training in installing and maintaining EV charging stations, power distribution systems, and smart grid integration — all critical components of the rapidly expanding EV market.
“At Olive-Harvey College, we are proud to be at the forefront of innovation in workforce education,” said Kimberly Hollingsworth, president of the college. “As the demand for EV techs continues to grow, we are ensuring our students meet that demand fully prepared.”
The program, developed in collaboration with industry partners, will align with national standards and prepare students for industry certifications. Coursework will be paired with internships and apprenticeships at local companies, offering real-world experience and direct pathways into the workforce.
The launch comes as electric vehicle adoption accelerates worldwide. According to the International Energy Agency, EV sales are expected to top 20 million this year, accounting for more than one-quarter of all cars sold globally. Fast-charging capacity is projected to expand tenfold by 2030, underscoring the need for a workforce trained in EV infrastructure.
City Colleges of Chicago leaders said the program reflects the system’s broader mission of providing Chicagoans with access to emerging career opportunities.
The official announcement will be held Sept. 25 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics building hangar at Olive-Harvey’s Far South Side campus, 10001 S. Woodlawn Ave.
