Gun Safety PAC-Backed Candidates Score Primary Wins Across Illinois (Chicago, IL) – Candidates backed by two major gun violence prevention groups claimed widespread victories in Illinois’ primary elections, underscoring the continued political strength of gun safety advocacy in the state.
The Gun Violence Prevention PAC of Illinois (G-PAC) and the national GIFFORDS PAC announced that nearly all of their endorsed candidates and incumbents won their respective races for seats in the Illinois General Assembly and local offices.
“We are thrilled that nearly every one of our endorsed gun safety champions claimed victory,” said Kathleen Sances, president and CEO of G-PAC. “We will continue our work to victory this November to help cement Illinois’ place as a national leader in gun violence prevention.”
Among the winners were several incumbent lawmakers, including State Sens. Sara Feigenholtz and Emil Jones III, and State Reps. Kam Buckner, Lilian Jiménez and Aaron Ortiz. New candidates such as Cleopatra Cowley and Shantel Franklin also secured victories in their respective House district primaries.
Additional G-PAC-backed candidates who won include Patrick Hanley, Paul Kendrick, Rep. Margaret DeLaRosa, Maria Peterson, Saba Haider, and Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry.
G-PAC and GIFFORDS PAC said their coordinated campaign efforts played a role in the outcomes. According to the organizations, digital advertising for endorsed candidates reached more than 1 million voters and generated thousands of online engagements, while direct mail efforts targeted key districts.
The groups have partnered since 2015 to support candidates who favor stricter gun laws and policies aimed at reducing gun violence. Their endorsements focus on candidates they say are committed to passing what they describe as “common sense” gun safety measures.
The results come as Illinois continues to be a focal point in the national debate over gun control, with Democratic lawmakers in the state advancing a range of gun safety legislation in recent years.
With the primary now complete, G-PAC and GIFFORDS PAC said they will continue supporting candidates in the lead-up to the November general election.
