Will County Clerk to Hold Lottery for Ballot Placement in 2026 General Election (Joliet, IL) – Will County Clerk Annette Parker will conduct a lottery next week to determine ballot placement for established political parties in the November 3, 2026 General Election.
The drawing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, at the Will County Clerk’s Office, 302 N. Chicago Street in downtown Joliet.
Under Illinois law, the lottery will decide the order in which established political parties appear on the ballot in applicable races. Representatives from the parties have been notified and may attend, along with a representative from the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office to observe the process.
State statute requires county clerks and election authorities to use a fair and impartial random selection method to determine ballot order. The process is outlined in Illinois election law (10 ILCS 5/7-60), which mandates that placement be decided through a randomized drawing.
Officials said the procedure ensures transparency and fairness in ballot design ahead of the general election. Additional information about the election and services offered by the clerk’s office is available at willcountyclerk.gov.
