Arlington Heights Man Charged After Investigation Into Child Sexual Abuse Material (Arlington Heights, IL) – A 32-year-old Arlington Heights man has been charged with multiple felony offenses after a Cook County Sheriff’s Police investigation allegedly linked him to the dissemination and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced.
Ian Stehmeier was charged following a months-long investigation conducted by the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Internet Crimes Against Children and Cyber Trafficking units.
According to investigators, the case began on Dec. 5, 2025, after authorities received multiple cyber tips regarding uploaded files containing suspected child sexual abuse material. The reports allegedly traced back to the same cellphone number and email address.
Sheriff’s Police investigators reviewed the uploaded material and confirmed it contained sexually explicit images involving children. Authorities then obtained search warrants for cellphone and internet service providers to identify the source of the uploads.
Investigators determined that internet protocol (IP) addresses connected to the uploads were associated with two locations in Arlington Heights: a residence in the 400 block of North Windsor Drive and a Jewel-Osco grocery store in the 1800 block of South Arlington Heights Road.
During the investigation, authorities identified Stehmeier as a resident of the Windsor Drive address and an employee of the Jewel store.
On June 10, investigators met with Stehmeier at his residence. After being advised of his Miranda rights, he agreed to speak with investigators, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said they confirmed that Stehmeier’s cellphone number, email address and internet service information matched the records connected to the alleged uploads. Investigators subsequently took possession of his cellphone.
On June 16, Sheriff’s Police executed a search warrant on the device and reportedly discovered more than 150 files containing explicit images and videos involving children.
Stehmeier was taken into custody on June 17.
The following day, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of:
Dissemination of Child Sexual Abuse Material, a Class X felony.
Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material, a Class 2 felony.
Following an initial court appearance on June 18 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse, a judge ordered Stehmeier detained in the Cook County Jail pending further proceedings.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities emphasized that criminal charges are allegations and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
