Pritzker Signs Gordon-Booth Bill Creating OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Fund (Springfield, IL) – Gov. JB Pritzker has signed legislation championed by Deputy Majority Leader Jehan Gordon-Booth (D-Peoria) creating a new funding source for OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois and pediatric care throughout the state.
The law, formerly House Bill 4558 and Senate Bill 2945, establishes a special OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois vehicle decal. Revenue generated through decal purchases and renewals will be directed to a new fund supporting the Peoria-based children’s hospital.
“By creating this new fund and source of revenue for the Children’s Hospital, we’re investing in high-quality healthcare for all children in our community and around the state,” Gordon-Booth said.
Under the new law, the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois decal will cost $25. For an initial purchase, $10 will go to the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Fund, while $15 will be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
For decal renewals, $23 will go to the hospital fund and $2 will go to the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
Gordon-Booth said the new revenue stream will help support a hospital that provides specialized pediatric services to children across Illinois.
“OSF Children’s Hospital is nationally ranked, provides children acute and specialist care, and is one of only four Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Centers in the entire state,” Gordon-Booth said.
The law takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.
Meg Zakrzewski, president of OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, thanked Gordon-Booth, state Sen. Dave Koehler, Pritzker and members of the General Assembly for supporting the legislation.
The hospital’s leadership said proceeds from the new fund will remain in Illinois and help support programs, technology and services for children and families.
“Our commitment is to ensure children have access to the highest level of pediatric care as close to home as possible, regardless of where they live,” Zakrzewski said.
Gordon-Booth said the legislation reflects the importance of maintaining access to advanced pediatric care in Peoria and throughout Illinois.
“Our community is proud to be the home of such crucial care, and I’m proud to ensure their work can continue to help children all around the state,” she said.
