Bolingbrook Residents to Join Nationwide ‘No Kings’ Protest on Oct. 18 (Bolingbrook, IL) – Local residents will join a nationwide protest on Friday, Oct. 18, as part of the second No Kings Day of Action, a coordinated series of demonstrations opposing what organizers describe as rising authoritarianism under President Donald Trump.
The Bolingbrook rally will take place at the northeast corner of Boughton Road and Janes Avenue, joining thousands of events planned across the country.
“No Kings is about defending the ideals we fought for. This country doesn’t belong to dictators. It belongs to the people,” said Barbara Parker, DuPage Township Clerk.
Organizers say the demonstrations are intended to be peaceful and community-centered. Will County Board member Jackie Traynere (District 11) said the event sends a strong message of resistance.
“As President Trump continues to pretend he’s a dictator, we are standing up again to push back against his hateful, authoritarian actions,” Traynere said. “Our peaceful day of action is going to bring together local residents from all walks of life who share a simple message: We don’t do kings in America.”
Local Concerns Drive Participation
Organizers say Trump’s recent decision to deploy the Texas National Guard to Elwood, in nearby Will County, has intensified local concerns about federal overreach and public safety.
“This hits home for us now,” said one local volunteer with Working Families Will County. “People here want to make their voices heard.”
Part of a Growing National Movement
The No Kings coalition bills itself as a nonpartisan movement defending democratic institutions. Its first day of action, held June 14, drew more than five million participants across all 50 states, according to organizers, making it one of the largest single-day protest efforts in recent U.S. history.
The Oct. 18 actions mark what organizers call “the next step” in mobilizing Americans around voting rights, civil liberties and democratic accountability.
Broad Coalition Backing
The movement is backed by a long list of national advocacy and labor organizations, including:
- ACLU
- American Federation of Teachers
- Common Defense
- Human Rights Campaign
- Indivisible
- League of Conservation Voters
- MoveOn
- National Nurses United
- Public Citizen
- SEIU
Local partners include Working Families Will County and Will County NOW.
