Broadview Saves $125,000 on Road Construction Project Thanks to Competitive Bidding (Broadview, IL) – The Village of Broadview is set to save an estimated $125,000 on an upcoming road construction project, following the approval of a contract during a special meeting of the Board of Trustees held Monday, June 23.

The project involves improvements to 21st Avenue, a residential corridor. Initial village estimates projected the total cost of the project at $800,000. However, after a competitive bidding process, the Village awarded the contract to Everlast Blacktop, Inc. for a total of $675,417.50—a savings of over $124,000.

Of the total cost, $500,000 will be covered by a Cook County infrastructure grant, further reducing the financial burden on the Village. The remaining $175,417.50 will be paid from local funds.

“This is a win for Broadview taxpayers,” said Mayor Katrina Thompson. “Thanks to the Village’s aggressive efforts to secure outside funding for infrastructure projects and our commitment to a transparent and competitive bidding process, we’re not only improving our roads—we’re doing it responsibly and cost-effectively. Every dollar we save is a dollar that stays in our community.”

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the contract with Everlast Blacktop, Inc., a firm with a strong track record in municipal infrastructure projects throughout the region.

Construction on 21st Avenue is scheduled to begin on July 7, 2025, and is expected to be completed by October 1, 2025. The project will include roadway resurfacing, curb and gutter replacement, and enhanced pedestrian access to ensure the road meets current safety and accessibility standards.

The 21st Avenue project is part of the Village’s broader initiative to modernize infrastructure while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

“This kind of smart planning ensures we continue to make progress without putting unnecessary pressure on our budget or our residents,” added Mayor Thompson.

The Village will release additional information closer to the project start date, including traffic detour plans and community notifications for residents along 21st Avenue.
