City Colleges of Chicago Introduces First Artificial Intelligence Degree Program at Wilbur Wright College (Chicago, IL) – City Colleges of Chicago has launched its first college-credit degree program focused on artificial intelligence, giving students a new pathway into one of the nation’s fastest-growing technology fields.
The new Associate in Applied Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Development, offered at Wilbur Wright College, is designed to prepare students with the technical skills needed to build, train and deploy artificial intelligence systems while meeting the growing demand for AI professionals.
City Colleges officials said the two-year degree combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning, preparing graduates for careers in software engineering, machine learning, data science, engineering and other STEM-related fields.
“The launch of the new degree and its coursework based in AI reflects City Colleges of Chicago’s continued commitment to aligning academic programs with workforce needs and preparing students for high-demand careers in emerging technologies and industries,” said Dr. Mark Potter, provost and chief academic officer for City Colleges of Chicago. “With the support of this degree, our students will be building AI systems that are bound to transform the way we live, learn and thrive.”
Students enrolled in the program will study a range of topics, including data processing, supervised and unsupervised learning, neural networks, deep learning, model deployment, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, image processing and ethics in technology. The curriculum is intended to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience while serving as a foundation for additional education or career advancement.
According to City Colleges, the program emphasizes AI development, enabling students to gain experience creating artificial intelligence models and applications.
“As AI transforms every sector of the economy, employers need professionals who understand how these systems are built and the people to build as well as utilize it,” said Ayoka Noelle Samuels, associate vice chancellor for City Colleges of Chicago. “It is a credited program that gives students the opportunity to develop the technical expertise needed to become AI developers and innovators while making AI education accessible through City Colleges of Chicago.”
Wilbur Wright College President Andres Oroz said the degree is designed to empower students to shape the future through technology.
“This degree is about handing our students the tools they need to build their futures. With these AI skills and degree, they will have the ability to solve our city’s biggest challenges, create groundbreaking technologies, and uplift their families and our communities,” Oroz said.
In addition to the associate degree, Wilbur Wright College also offers an Advanced Certificate in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Development. The certificate program includes coursework in programming fundamentals, networking, operating systems, databases, artificial intelligence, machine learning and ethics, while allowing students to earn college credit.
