Cook County Health Awards $2 Million to Fund Abortion Care (Chicago, IL) – August 5, 2025 – Cook County Health (CCH) has announced the awarding of $2 million to fund wraparound reproductive services. This funding, resulting from the Reproductive Health Equity Budget Amendment passed by the Cook County Board last fall, will provide essential wraparound services for individuals seeking reproductive health care, including transportation, lodging, and childcare.

The Reproductive Health Equity Budget Amendment, led by Commissioners Bridget Degnen (D-12) and Donna Miller (D-6), was passed on November 21, 2024, as part of the Cook County Budget. This amendment aimed to ensure equitable access to reproductive health services, particularly in light of attacks on abortion rights at the federal and state level across the country.

Commissioner Degnen stated, “I’m ecstatic to see $2 million awarded to fund these crucial but under-resourced services. Yet, I am also filled with anger that in 2025, women have fewer rights than a generation ago. I’m angry that the campaign to Make America More Dangerous and less free for women, particularly poor women, has come to fruition in states across the country. It’s time to stand up for reproductive care.”

Service providers will use this grant to enhance support services, ensuring that individuals seeking reproductive health care receive comprehensive assistance.

“By providing this critical funding, Cook County is making abortion care accessible to patients—many who are forced to travel from their home states because of abortion bans. With this support, Cook County can continue serving as an indispensable resource for abortion patients nationwide,” said Sarah Garza Resnick, CEO of Personal PAC, one of the state’s leading abortion rights advocacy groups. “Personal PAC thanks Commissioner Degnen, the Cook County Board, President Preckwinkle, and Cook County Health for their unwavering commitment to reproductive freedom. ”

The grant is scheduled to be considered at the August 15 meeting of the Cook County Health Finance Committee and, if approved, then voted on at the August 29 Cook County Health Board of Directors Meeting. There is a press conference announcing the grant award taking place August 5th at 12PM.
