Illinois Promotes One Click College Admit Month to Expand Access to Higher Education (Chicago, IL) – Illinois education officials are encouraging students and families to take advantage of a new, streamlined pathway to college during February’s One Click College Admit Month, a statewide effort aimed at reducing barriers to higher education.

The initiative highlights One Click College Admit, a direct admissions program launched last summer by the Illinois Board of Higher Education in partnership with the Illinois Community College Board and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. The program offers Illinois high school juniors and community college transfer students automatic admission opportunities to participating public universities and community colleges based solely on grade point average.

Students who opt in to the program can receive college admission offers without completing traditional applications, writing essays, securing letters of recommendation, or paying application fees.

“By eliminating fees and the application process for participating state universities and our community colleges, we can empower more students across the state with higher education options that put them on a path for success,” said IBHE Executive Director Ginger Ostro. She encouraged students and families to learn more about the program and complete the opt-in process.

Throughout February, ISAC will host workshops and information sessions in collaboration with high schools across Illinois, with support from IBHE, ICCB, and the Illinois State Board of Education. These include in-school workshops, free virtual sessions, and opportunities for students and parents to connect with ISAC experts and ISACorps members for one-on-one assistance.

Signing up for One Click College Admit typically takes less than five minutes. High school juniors complete a short opt-in form — with parental consent required for students under 18 — allowing their GPA to be shared with ISAC. That information is then matched to GPA criteria set by participating colleges and universities. Students who opt in can expect to receive admission offers through their Common App account in September of their senior year.

The program also extends to community college students preparing to transfer to an Illinois public four-year university. Eligible students working toward an associate degree can opt in to receive direct admission offers, with ICCB coordinating outreach and information sessions through community colleges statewide.

To support schools, ISAC has developed a toolkit for counselors interested in hosting One Click College Admit workshops, along with instructional videos and online resources for students and families.
