Sen. Patrick Joyce Announces More Than $385,000 for Libraries Across 40th District (Kankakee, IL) – State Sen. Patrick Joyce, D-Essex, announced that 21 public libraries and school districts throughout the 40th Senate District will receive more than $385,000 in state funding to support library services, literacy programs, technology, infrastructure improvements and security upgrades.

The funding is part of more than $27 million awarded statewide by the Illinois Secretary of State through the Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grants, Security and Construction Grants, and School Library Grants programs.

“For years, our local libraries have continued to bring people together,” Joyce said. “Libraries are not just places you go to check out books. They are also pillars in building tight-knit communities.”

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, the grants will help public libraries expand collections, improve technology, strengthen literacy programming, enhance facilities and complete security improvements. Annual school library grants will support literacy and learning initiatives for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
