Illinois EPA Opens $18 Million Program to Replace Diesel Trucks with Electric Vehicles (Springfield, IL) – The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) is offering up to $18 million in funding to help businesses and government fleets swap out aging diesel trucks for new all-electric models.
The initiative, part of the agency’s Driving a Cleaner Illinois program, aims to reduce pollution in communities disproportionately impacted by diesel emissions. Funding will also cover a portion of charging infrastructure costs where needed.
Officials expect the program to support as many as 65 electric trucks, ranging from delivery vehicles and dump trucks to waste haulers and port drayage trucks.
“This is another step toward electrifying our transportation sector and improving air quality in areas most affected by diesel pollution,” said Acting Director James Jennings.
Eligible applicants include business and government fleets operating in priority areas identified in the state’s Volkswagen emissions settlement plan. These areas include Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Madison, St. Clair, Peoria, Sangamon, and several other counties across Illinois.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted.
More information on eligibility and application requirements is available on the Illinois EPA’s Driving a Cleaner Illinois webpage.
