Black Bench Chicago Launches Third Cohort, Welcoming 30 Emerging Leaders (Chicago, IL) – Black Bench Chicago has welcomed 30 young professionals into its third cohort, continuing its mission to build and support the next generation of Black leadership across the city.

The new class, announced Friday, brings together individuals from a wide range of fields — from business and education to grassroots community organizing, health, and entrepreneurship. Organizers say the group reflects the city’s diversity and the organization’s goal of nurturing leaders who can make lasting civic and social impact.

“These individuals come from every corner of the city, bringing with them a wide range of experience in business, community engagement, and public service,” Black Bench Chicago said in a statement.

The 2025 program begins Saturday, Sept. 6, with its first session led by nationally recognized facilitators Xavier Ramey, Ken Bennett, and Chris Percy. Over the coming months, participants will take part in intensive leadership training, skills development, and networking opportunities designed to prepare them for roles in public service and community leadership.

Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st), who co-founded Black Bench Chicago, said he sees promise in the new class. “I could not be more excited about this new class,” Mosley said. “Their drive, perspective, and commitment to service show that the future of Black leadership in this city is in powerful hands.”

Founded to create a pipeline of Black leaders prepared to serve and organize in civic life, Black Bench Chicago has now engaged nearly 100 emerging leaders since its inception.

With the third cohort underway, the organization says it remains committed to equipping participants with the tools and mentorship needed to drive change in their neighborhoods — and across Chicago.
