Illinois Democrats Celebrate Signing of FY 2027 Balanced Budget (Springfield, IL) – Illinois Democrats are touting the state’s newly signed Fiscal Year 2027 budget as a major investment in working families, highlighting affordability measures, infrastructure spending and continued fiscal stability.

Gov. JB Pritzker signed the FY 2027 budget into law this week, marking what state Democrats describe as Illinois’ eighth consecutive balanced budget under current leadership.

Following the signing, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair and Deputy Majority Leader Lisa Hernandez praised the budget and said it addresses economic challenges facing residents across the state.

“Illinois Democrats hear our state’s families loud and clear: everything is just too expensive in Trump’s economy,” Hernandez said in a statement. “Illinois Democrats believe every person in every corner of Illinois deserves to live a good, affordable life which is why we delivered another balanced budget in spite of a federal administration that continues to punish our state.”

Hernandez also criticized Illinois Republicans and urged them to focus more attention on national economic issues.

“It’s past time for Illinois Republicans to wake up,” she said. “They need to spend less time condemning Democrats’ efforts to invest in communities, education and infrastructure, and direct that energy to calling out Trump’s tariffs, his ballroom, his war and his gas prices—the real things that are taxing Illinoisans.”

Democratic leaders highlighted several provisions included in the FY 2027 budget, including a six-month pause on the state’s motor fuel tax increase, nearly $100 million in funding aimed at helping families afford groceries and food, and reforms related to homeowners and auto insurance.

Supporters say those measures are intended to provide financial relief for residents dealing with rising costs while maintaining investments in education, public services and infrastructure projects throughout Illinois.

The Democratic Party credited Gov. Pritzker, Senate President Don Harmon, House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Hernandez and members of the Democratic caucuses in the General Assembly for helping craft and pass the spending plan.

Democrats also contrasted the current budget with the state’s fiscal challenges during previous Republican leadership, pointing to years of budget stalemates, billions in unpaid bills and multiple credit rating downgrades.

The FY 2027 budget continues Illinois’ recent streak of balanced spending plans and reflects ongoing efforts by state leaders to maintain fiscal stability while funding programs aimed at supporting families, local communities and economic development.
