Bailey Calls on Sen. Anderson to Withdraw SB3572 (Louisville, IL) Former state Sen. Darren Bailey, a Republican candidate for governor, is calling on Sen. Neil Anderson to withdraw Senate Bill 3572, arguing that the proposal would harm women and families across Illinois.
In a statement released Monday, Bailey criticized the bill’s approach, saying it relies on criminal penalties rather than providing meaningful support to those facing difficult circumstances.
“When women and families are facing a crisis, they need understanding, support, and real help, not the threat of jail time,” Bailey said. “Criminalizing women in these situations doesn’t solve problems; it deepens hurt and pushes people away from the alternatives and support that could help them.”
Bailey, who has long identified as pro-life, said he believes legislation such as SB3572 could undermine trust and make it more difficult to address complex family and social issues.
“We should be leading with compassion and practical solutions that strengthen families and build trust,” he said. “I am pro-life, but I believe we also have to face reality: approaches like this pull people away and make it harder to move Illinois forward.”
The statement did not detail the full scope of SB3572, but Bailey’s comments suggest the bill includes criminal penalties related to sensitive family or reproductive matters. He urged Anderson to reconsider the proposal and withdraw it from consideration.
Sen. Anderson had not publicly responded to Bailey’s remarks as of Monday.
