Commissioner Samantha Steele to Host New Trier Township Property Tax Appeal Workshop (Chicago, IL) – With property values in New Trier Township rising sharply this year, Cook County Board of Review District 2 Commissioner Samantha Steele will host an outreach event to help residents understand the tax assessment process and pre-file appeals.
The free workshop will take place Thursday, Aug. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wilmette Community Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Road.
This year’s reassessment saw the total value of residential properties in the township climb more than 30% over 2024. Steele said the session aims to make the appeals process easier to navigate.
“This event is about making the appeals process accessible and ensuring taxpayers have the knowledge and support needed to confidently challenge their assessments,” Steele said. “Our outreach team works tirelessly to assist Cook County taxpayers, and I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to get answers, receive guidance, and make informed decisions about their property taxes.”
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., when attendees can meet one-on-one with analysts to ask questions and begin pre-filing appeals. A brief presentation on the assessment and appeals process will begin at 6 p.m., with analysts available for the remainder of the event to provide personalized help.
The filing deadline for New Trier Township appeals has not yet been set, but pre-filing allows residents to submit appeals before the official period begins. Attendees should bring a property tax bill or property index number (PIN).
