DuPage Sheriff Reports Results of Halloween Traffic Enforcement Campaign (Wheaton, IL) – The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office issued dozens of citations during its Halloween traffic safety enforcement campaign, the department announced this week.
Between October 24 and November 3, deputies focused on impaired driving, seat belt use and other roadway violations as part of statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI.” initiatives. The effort was supported with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
During the campaign, deputies issued:
- 24 speeding citations
- 7 citations for distracted driving
- 6 citations for driving without valid insurance
- 4 citations for disobeying a traffic signal
- 3 citations for failure to signal
- 1 citation each for passing on the shoulder, improper lane usage, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and driving with expired plates
The enforcement push was part of a statewide effort to reduce crashes and prevent injuries related to impaired or unsafe driving during the Halloween season, when traffic safety officials often see increases in alcohol- and drug-related incidents.
Law enforcement agencies across Illinois participated in the operation. The Sheriff’s Office said the campaign aimed to remind drivers to slow down, stay alert and remain sober while on the road.
