Robbins Block Clubs to Host Black History Community Celebration (Robbins, IL) – Robbins Block Clubs will host a free community event highlighting the village’s Black history later this month, inviting residents and visitors to learn about Robbins’ role in the fight for freedom and its broader community legacy.
The event, titled “Black History in Robbins,” is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Robbins Community Center, 13800 Trumbull Ave. Organizers describe the gathering as a family-friendly celebration centered on food, fellowship, and historical education.
A featured presentation will take place at 3:30 p.m., when historian Dr. Larry McClellan is expected to discuss Robbins’ significance in the Underground Railroad and its place in African American history. Robbins historian Dawn Anderson will also present on the history of the village and the contributions of its residents over time.
The event is co-sponsored by the Midwest Underground Railroad Network, which works to preserve and promote awareness of Underground Railroad sites and stories throughout the region.
Admission to the event is free, though local vendors will be on hand selling meals. Dinners will be available for $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under.
